D.I.Y.: Faux Fur Boot Cuffs

Inspired by boots I could never afford and P.S. I made this, last night I whipped up a pair of faux fur boot cuffs with part of the fur I had left from my clutch. Read on to find out how to make your own!
First determine which shoes you are going to use. I made mine to fit the booties shown using faux fur, felt, straight pins, scissors, a needle, thread and a sewing machine, which is optional.
There are really no exact measurements to use when cutting out your fur. Figure out about how tall you want your cuffs to be, then add two inches for hemming (I wanted mine about 6" tall, so I cut my fur 8" tall). Cut two strips, one for each shoe. The strips need to be long enough to wrap snuggly around
the opening of your boot with two extra inches for hemming as well.
Match the short ends of your fur (long ends if you are making really tall cuffs), furry side together, and sew one inch from the edge to make the tube that will become the cuff. Fold down the top and bottom edges and pin. Sew down.

Now make the lining. This will help the cuffs stand upright. I used felt for mine since I already had some, but any sturdy fabric will do. Place two 8.5" x 11" sheets together and sew down one long edge. Spread the sheets apart so you have one sheet measuring 17" x 11". (If you are making 6" cuffs like I did, the felt will fit perfectly once folded and sewed. Adjust these sizes if your cuffs are bigger or smaller than mine).
Fold the top and bottom edges in towards the middle as shown in the diagram, then fold the resulting piece in half, short edges together, and pin. Sew a seam an inch in from this edge (again, this measurement will depend on the size of your cuffs; you want the lining slightly smaller than the fur tube).
Turn the fur cuff right side out and insert the felt cuff into it. Pin the two pieces together, whip stitch the felt to the fur, slide the cuffs over your boots and you are ready to show off your "new" shoes!

  1. Oh, YES!!!! Fabulous! Love this too and glad you used the leftover fur. How clever!
I bet these cuffs are also very functional keeping legs warm.
And I like how you said you whipped this up last night :) Looks awesome!
